bali eco village
hi this is looey tremblay from better in belize.we are standing in the, the one major garden center that we have here. and we are goingto compete with a little bit of noise because we have some of our free-range chickens besideme, they want to speak up a little bit. but behind myself here you see that we have doneour first example of an earth bag building. totally natural product, for building purposesto use, using the earth that's around you.
bali eco village, there's very little wood that has gone intoit. we had had to put on a metal roof which also has a sky light in it to allow naturallight, and that is for the collection for water. water for rain water purposes, becausewe do drink some of that water. in around this garden area right here just in this littlearea i have coleus, we have a palm here. we
have palms behind. i have vetiver grass here,as well as lemon grass. daffodils and we have some herbs and spices that are in here. aswell we have bananas, blogos, plantains, pineapple behind, mango tree, avocado tree, you seepapaya trees and a number of other things just in this small area. we have five acresof gardens here which is a community garden. you can come in as an owner here and takeyour own private plot and we will help you, teach you the permaculture principles, aswell as organic gardening. all our gardens are organically minded and we do everythingfrom creating vermipost which is basically compost on steroids. we have an aquaponicssystem here. so we have aquaculture where we are raising tilapia and their faeces arephenomenal for fertilization purposes. we
bring in micro-organisms from the surroundingforest and create them and multiply them. we have done organic fungicides and pesticidesfrom the neem trees that we have planted here, as well as onions and hot peppers, and orangesprays. so it's very interesting. we have two very talented gardeners here that arefull time - as well, we have a number of part-timers that add their abilities and expertise. wehave an organic gardener straight across the road from us, roberto, that has also donea lot for us in helping us teach us what works in the area here. so, we are glad that youcame in. we are going to do a little bit more of a tour of the gardens. we have also createdswales, as well as berms on contour for tiering, natural tiering of the gardens. we've gotour herb spiral here. we've got bamboo planters
that are up on the side that are all donein bamboo. so we are really putting a lot of the permaculture principles in concepttogether here. we've been able to have university students from waterloo university, universityof waterloo in ontario, canada come down on co-op programs to assist us and they werevery instrumental in setting up the aquaculture setup as well as a number of other thingshere. so we thank them also for their assistance and their volunteering here at better in belize.so thank you very much! bye bye!
