hi guys this is Stella and your 5 facts about Nyepi days the first fact about the Nyepi: Nyepi is probably one of the biggest holidays and celebrations in Bali. and maybe even the biggest one in Bali. balinese don't really celebrate our western holidays like Christmas and stuff because they are Hindu and their most important day is Nyepi
bali airports, Nyepi is actually a new year day for Balinese Hindu people so during the Nyepi celebration for 3 days there are public holidays in Bali and everything is closed all offices, all small shops, some of the cafes and restaurants. fact #2we are used that all holidays
have a fixed date on the calendar.but Nyepi doesn't have a fixed date because Balinese use their own old traditional calendar to define the date for Nyepi so this year Nyepi is on the 9th of march.but last year it was a different date. and the next Nyepi gonna be the different date as well. fact #3 and this is the most interesting fact.the way how Balinese celebrate Nyepi day is very unique and so special and I've never seen anything special anywhere in the world so just imagine on Nyepi day itself all the Balinese are supposed to stay at home and don't go outside at all, don't leave the house. they have to keep silence and they have to be quiet. they don't use any lights even at night. for the whole day and they don't turn on any music
and they don't do any noises.they are supposed to stay at home, fast and meditate and don't leave the house for whole24 hours. fact #4. and this is even more interesting because of this tradition for not leaving the house and keeping silence it's not only Balinese but for everyone who is visiting the island this day. soon march, 9th this year or some other date next year on Nyepi day all people in Bali (tourists, non-Hindu- everyone), they all have to stay at home and keep silence and lights off. even tourists!most of my friends don't believe me that this also refers to tourists. so just imagine whole day starting from 6am one day until 6am the next day the whole island is in total silence and in total emptiness because of all
people are locked down and staying at home or in the hotels. not a single person is on the street. no one is allowed. and nothing is open. some people ask me can I go to cafe or restaurant. no! no one can go outside, you stay at home. and you can't use lights you can't do any noises. you have to be quiet.all island is quiet and empty. and this is unbelievable that this happens.and it's even more proof. the airport is not working on the Nyepi day. it's closed! shutdown! and it's in total darkness. and there is not a single light on the whole island. and the last fact. as I said the Nyepi is 3-days celebration and actually before the silence day (Nyepi day) there is so much noise. and there is so much fun and celebration. this
is how they finish the last day of the year and with Nyepi day they start a new year of their Balinese calendar.so the day before if you are in Bali go out to the biggest streets and squares. because there will be a beautiful parade of homemade handcrafted giant figures that are supposed to symbolize some demons of monsters or some human sins. and this parade of giant figures will gather at some intersection and people will parade the whole thing along the main streets. and it's really beautiful and it's such an amazing atmosphere and they do a lot of noise. that is what they do. do a lot of noise before having silence day. so basically if you don't won't be locked down for the whole day you have to leave the island for these days. lots of people go to Gili islands, they go to Java or they travel
outside of Bali. they go to Lombok also or somewhere else.but make sure you book your tickets in advance because nothing will be available on the last minute. okay, that's all about Nyepi.if you have any questions please read about nyepi on my blog or ask in the comments belowand I will reply to them. see you next week! bye-bye!
